Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled plans to commit A$20 billion (around US $13 billion) over the next five years to significantly enhance its data center footprint in Australia. This landmark investment—Amazon’s largest global tech funding in Australia—will support an expanded network of data centers in Sydney and Melbourne, while also financing three new solar farms in Victoria and Queensland to support sustainable operations.
The move positions Australia as a rising hub for generative AI and cloud computing, bringing AWS capacity to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure and AI capabilities across industries. It also complements earlier government-backed cloud projects, including a leadership-level partnership for secure intelligence cloud services.
