Chase has just revamped its Sapphire Reserve credit card, unveiling a suite of new perks for cardholders—but it comes with a catch: a higher annual fee. Previously $550, the card’s fee is jumping to $795 starting mid-July for new applicants. Existing cardholders will see the change kick in when their next renewal date rolls around.
So, what do you get for the extra cost?
The updated benefits package includes a $100 statement credit toward a Hyatt stay and a complimentary DashPass membership from DoorDash (a previously temporary perk, now permanent). Chase also added access to Sapphire Lounges by The Club, part of their growing airport lounge network. Additional benefits include up to $10 in monthly statement credits from Gopuff and a 12-month Instacart+ membership, among others.
Chase is positioning the changes as a value-add for frequent travelers and loyal cardholders who make the most of luxury perks. However, with nearly an $800 price tag, many consumers may find themselves evaluating whether these new benefits are worth the cost—especially when travel habits continue to fluctuate.
As credit card companies compete in the premium travel space, Chase’s move signals a trend toward stacking perks in exchange for higher annual fees. Whether this upgrade feels like a win will depend on how much you actually take advantage of the new benefits.
